What is Authors on Show all about?

Some new visitors to Authors on Show have asked what we do.

We are a site that promotes unpublished authors looking for an agent and those who are unpublished or self-published and seeking to secure a traditional publishing deal. We have recently also been promoting self-published authors to give them a helping hand in being seen, but are now reverting back to the original role of helping those who are unpublished.

We have two sitesAuthors on Show is the main one and AOS is the Blog for daily postings and the archives of all the authors we have promoted over nearly two years

This isn’t a site for uploading your books, this is purely for promoting fellow writers and their work and talking about everything else that is of interest to do with writing.

All authors today need to be very pro-active and seen to be promoting themselves if they want to stand a chance of being published. As readers of the books you might see on here and elsewhere, we ask you to consider doing reviews on the sites where you buy them. Your honest reviews are what help them to sell. We also invite you all to comment on our pages and articles here as your feedback helps us to know what you’d like to see more of on Authors on Show.

One of our authors has already been signed by an agent after being spotted on Authors on Show and it is hoped many more who are featured on here will also find agents or publishers.

We look forward to helping you discover authors of the future and new authors who have self-published. We will promote as many as possible and hope you in turn, do the same for us, not just as a site, but as individual authors as well.

Thanks for visiting us and we look forward to hearing from you.

If you would like to be promoted or know of someone you think worthy, please contact

ian@authorsonshow.com

Thank you,

Lorraine Holloway-White

Submissions

SUBMISSIONS ARE BACK

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

Please make sure you read the guidelines for submission properly. Anyone sending to the wrong address or not following guidelines, will now have his or her submission deleted with no notification. This especially refers to those who do not send photo’s as attachments and their text in a WORD document. Although we specify that clearly throughout, many still send in the wrong way. From now on, we will NOT be chasing you and asking you to change it.

Agents and Publishers

If you would like to know more about any of our authors, or would like one of your authors to feature as a guest on this site, please contact ian@authorsonshow.com

Why put my book on Authors on Show?

We have already had information that agents and publishers started to look at us to see what’s on offer and one person has secured an agent after being spotted on our pages. By keeping it small and exclusive, we hope to attract even more. With only a few authors and their books to look at each month, Authors on Show will be far quicker and easier for them than a site with thousands to choose from, which means you have more chance of being seen if you appear on Authors on Show.

We ask all authors to be active in advertising us wherever possible. Agents and publishers interested in your book, will undoubtedly be checking to see what else you are up to. They like to see authors who help promote themselves these days as we all know only too well. This is a very competitive and difficult market to break into. If they need to choose between two authors, they will probably pick the one who is more pro-active.

Featured Authors

Our featured authors are unpublished and some may be seeking representation. Those signed to agents are welcome to submit, but no published authors for this section. For consideration as a Featured Author, please send a query, naming the genre and a brief description of the plot to ian@authorsonshow.com quoting ‘submissions’ and include a link (copy paste), if you have one, where your book can be seen and read by us. Please do not send anything else at this stage - thank you.

How does the selection process work?

After the initial query, we will look at your work and see if it is something we could consider in its present state. Choices will be made depending on quality of writing and plot. We accept fiction and non-fiction, but ask that it is well on the way to completion with most of the book written and well edited. None with only a few chapters will be considered, nor do we accept short stories unless part of a compilation.

Decisions on selection will also be dependant on genres we are looking for at any given time. We aim to have a mix of genres in order to offer something for everyone.

What do you need from me if my book is selected?

As soon as you are chosen to be showcased we will ask you to send:

*     a picture of you

  • a bio (max 200 words)
  • photo of the  book cover
  • the blurb (max 300 words)
  • first chapter or excerpt (max 2000 words)
  • all links referring to you

All text to be sent as a Word document only. (Please make sure to send ALL of the required documents when asked and that it is in Word as specified. If you don’t, your place will be given to another author)

It’s your time to shine-we try to make sure you do.

Please do not send any of the above (except links) unless requested to do so as we shall delete all unsolicited material.

Guest Authors

Guest Author is one who is published and has a book/s for sale, or who has signed a publishing deal. Guest authors will be asked to submit an article telling us about their path to securing an agent and/or publisher as it helps everyone to see the different ways this can happen. Guest authors can also now appear at the request of their agent or publisher, but it can also be by invitation from us.  Agents or publishers interested in us promoting one of your authors, please contact ian@authorsonshow.com and quote Guest Author.

What happens if my submission isn’t a success this time?

If your book is not accepted immediately although it covers all of the above requirements, we may ask to hold it to one side for placement at a later date. We try to contact everyone as soon as possible, but please allow a couple of weeks before you make enquiries if you haven’t heard back from us.

You are more than welcome to re-submit to us for further consideration after changes have been undertaken. We are not here to discourage writers we aim to help. Another reason you may not be selected on your first try may be we are full for now. We try to get back to all who submit as soon as possible, but hose not submitting correctly will be deleted and no notification or reason given.
